Awakening Your Inner Olympian - How to Achieve High Performance in Life & Career

Sep 24, 2023

“Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.” - Dan Gable

Every four years, we find ourselves tuning in to witness the unparalleled passion and performance of Olympic athletes. Their journey to achieve their goals and come out victorious against the greatest competitors in the world isn’t just about physical ability - it’s also about mindset, discipline, and a fiery commitment.

The same tenacity can be found in our own lives, not just in sports, but in our career and personal development. And guess what? You don’t need to be an athlete to harness this!

The essence of high performance is about connecting deeply with your passions and creating a path you can follow to make your passions your reality. Whether you’re taking the first leap or fine-tuning your trajectory, here’s how you can awaken that Olympian within.

Connect with Your Passion: Identify what drives you - what brings you joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment. And then dedicate time to yourself to truly dig into that - journal, meditate, and think hard about honing in on what truly matters.

Set Clear Goals: Once you’ve identified your passion, make it real with tangible goals. Whether it’s a promotion, mastering a new skill, running a marathon, or just achieving a better mindset - a clear goal post is essential.

Establish Routines & Habits: Every Olympian has a rigorous routine. Establishing a daily routine that aligns with your goals ensures you’re always moving forward. This isn’t about major moves and grand acts, but instead consistent, small steps that result in substantial progress.

Devise a Strategy: Make a game plan. Break down your goals into manageable chunks, establish timelines, and be open to pivot and change if needed. A flexible approach is best.

Embrace the Athlete’s Mindset: High performers are not deterred by setbacks - they are fueled by them. Adopt a growth mindset, where challenges are used as opportunities to learn and evolve.

Consistent Evaluation: Just as an athlete reviews their performance after every match, routinely assess your progress. Celebrate your victories, and pivot if certain approaches aren’t working.

Harnessing your inner Olympian is not a one-time event. It’s a continuous journey that requires perseverance, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to your potential.
